[TPIN] 20 Greatest Jazz Trumpet Players of All Time

The difference between "entertainment value" and "artistic influence" can be vast.

Entertainment value is nice, but I don't think it's necessary criteria for being on a "greatest jazz trumpet player list".
High, loud and fast is more entertaining than subtle.
Beauty and elegance are delightful, but not spectacular.
A high note from Arturo or Maynard will drown out the wonderfully hip jazz feel, and great ideas of a Kenny Dorham.
I wouldn't call Mendez a jazz player.
Never heard of Ryan Anthony.
Louis Armstrong was a special case.
He was at once the greatest entertainer and one of the four top originators of jazz trumpet (followed by Diz, Miles and Clifford).
Just my $0.02, worth less every day.

Well, for my entertainment dollar, and my wife will tell you I spend a lot of money going to concerts, shows, recitals,

and clubs that feature trumpet players.

Again, this only my opinion based on entertainment value and:

      Add: Remove:

      Bobby Hackett Wynton Marsalis

      Harry James Harry Edison

      Rafeal Mendez Booker Little

      Arturo Sandoval Terrell Stafford

      Doc Severinsen Woody Shaw

      Ryan Anthony Thad Jones
