Good thread, lets keep it going with other peoples list.
here are my favorites. Notice I do not say best of all time, as I am no
where near able to judge that. This is not an attempt at any sort of
"who is best". But rather a list of the folks I really love to listen
to, and maybe try and copy a bit from when i practice.
You will not notice a lot of bebob guys. Hey Dizzie is not on my list. I
admire those guys greatly, I just don't love listening to them. so my
list is, as Kerry suggested, MY LIST of who i love.
1. Louis Armstrong
2. Harry Sweets Edison ( I have more of his cd's and listen to him more
then i do anyone)
3.Clark Terry
4. Doc
5. Al Hirt
6.Buck Clayton
7.Charlie Shavers
8. Warren Vache
9.Roy Eldridge (he is my lasted find that i am listening to a lot right now)
10.Terell Stafford (this comes more from sitting for a week of classes
with him and listening to him play, then it does from his recordings. He
can play anything in what ever style you want)
11.Jonah Jones
12.Bobby Hackett
13. Wynton
14.Miles (during some periods, not others)
15. Nicholas Payton
more to come as my education continues
