hmm, interesting breakdown. I think what he is trying to do with this is to
show the level of originality and influence on the music as a whole.
Everyone on this list in incredibly original and groundbreaking. I
personally feel that the list is too short but everyone who is on there
deserves to be there. I feel that Mr. Paris' statement about Wynton is a bit
harsh. Wynton is showcasing, on a lifetime level, how to be yourself and use
the medium of jazz to do so. His composing is incredibly original and many
jazz greats will detest to such things (Jimmy Heath, Scotty Barnhart,
Terence Blanchard). Just because you personally don't enjoy his playing
doesn't mean that everyone else doesn't. Of course, something as sensitive
as this subject is strictly OPINION, and I know people who don't respect
pops and others on this list. However, when looking at jazz music as a whole
and not examining each individuals playing qualities as a single entity, but
as a contribution to the art as a whole, you will begin to see the ebb and
flow of jazz as it dances through time. IMO, everyone should be on "the
list"
