Mates,
With all due respect to my friend Wilmer, whom I love and respect, Wynton was party to putting himself into the Ken Burns Jazz documentary as MAJOR contributer to the music. So, in that way I think he DID put himself on the list and quite high on the list at that. Perhaps he would do something different today.
I do believe Wynton to be an absolutely brilliant talent. He is both his best supporter and his own worst enemy. Also, it is natural for those at the top of the heap to have people wanting to take them down a few pegs/
Wynton does make my top 20 list. I find him to be an artist that is big enough to continue to grow and develop. I both respect, and admire and appreciate the depth of his maturity as an artist and trumpeter. I've promoted his recording Live at the House of Tribes on this list. Green Chimneys absolutely knocked me out. Jazz trumpeteing simply does not gtet any better.
