For less than $1, you can cover those nasty metal clips with electrical heat-shrink tubing.  White looks good with the std H&B.  Other colors available.

No more scratches, and it will outlast the mute.

I have been using a clip on bucket mute. It is not the easiest mute to inatall.
There are also scratches on the bell where I clip on the bucket.
I am considering an in the bell bucket. If any of you uses 
or knows any of the pros and cons, let me hear from you.
