Hi Vic; I wouldn't worry so much about what people enjoy as long as you enjoy doing it. If you are enjoying yourself and the music is played with integrity, then the people will appreciate it.
I also suggest not worrying about getting paid until you have a gig. Then you get paid. As a performer, having something unique is always an ace in the hole and it sounds like you are onto
something.
I say keep on doing what you are doing and let the chips fall where they may.

Good luck!!!

<Hello everybody,

As a highly motivated high school trumpet player, I am trying to get exposure with playing gigs. The thing is that there are not pianists (who are good or have the time) at my school to accompany some of the music I have. I have been playing at open mic nights when I can and, being that only an unaccompanied trumpet player is there, I must perform unaccompanied trumpet solos! (obviously).

My question is, do 'regular' non-instrument (or at least, non-trumpet playing) people enjoy unaccompanied trumpet solos? And if I were (hypothetically) able to play at a gig where I would have to play unaccompanied trumpet solos, would people pay for me to play that? I guess what I am wondering is: do unaccompanied solos qualify as 'regular' repertoire, or just a pedagogical thing used for recitals and private lessons?

Thanks in advance for any responses.
