Hi Gang,
I play a mouthpieces on my flugelhorn and my cornet designed by "Ted
Sparx." I'm sure that Chase knows Ted. Ted designs his mouthpieces for
brass band players. Suffice to say that without woodwinds in a wind
ensemble the brasses are playing more frequently. I switched from a Bach 1B
cornet to a Sparx 2B cornet mouthpiece manufactured by GR. I play Repiano
cornet in our Plumbing Factory Brass Band, so I might not be playing as
often as the Solo Cornet players, but there is usually only one repiano
player. Anyway I find the Sparx much more relaxing, and I like the
resonance. The 1B was a great sounding mouthpiece, but I could never play
it for more than a few minutes.
I switched from a Bach 3C cornet mouthpiece to a Sparx 2 flugelhorn
mouthpiece. Again issues of endurance are less of a problem, and I like the
sound. The Sparx seems to cut just a little less on the lip.
I'm not sure if Chase plays any cornet or if he has met Ted. They do
live in the GTA.
