Hi Jack!
Well, I was just sick at the MF Tribute and just wanted to die. I was not
ready to play a tribute concert and did not want to do so. My heart was in
my throat the whole night. All along, I was told that I would be playing
the "Hit Medley" and "Rocky," so that is all that I practiced, because I did
not feel like playing after MF died. It was not until the rehearsal
that day that I was told I was going to be plaing "Frame For The Blues." I
didn't even know the intro. I would have never gone in unprepared like
that, but I was kept in the dark until the last minute. If it would have
been a normal situation, I probably would have been alright, but losing my
Dad and Maynard so close together like that was just terrible. I am the
oldest of four boys, so I had to be the rock for my brothers and family. I
was also a pau bearer and even played a perfect TAPS for my Dad's funeral.
I am way more proud of that fact than the way I played at the MF Tribute
Concert. Under the circumstances, I played my best and that is all that one
can do. If you play the trumpet long enough, you will have a bad night and
that is what keeps us playing. We all keep striving for the good nights. I
hope that all is well and take care!
God Bless You!

Hey Patrick,
I was at the Maynard tribute concert in St. Louis, in September 2006.
Perhaps you should practice up on "Frame For The Blues" and include it in
the next edition of your book, which none of TPIN will buy.
Try and pull that "Monette-a-phone" out of your *ss.

Hello Everyone!
A little bird told me that there are some people that are mad at me for not
responding to their email questions, etc. Well, I have responded to ALL of
the email questions that I have received, but some of them get rejected by
your spam filters, etc. If I am not on your safe list, chances are that you
will not get my email. I do get backed-up and there was a time when I would
have over 100 email questions at one time!
I do think that some people just ask way too many questions to get it all
for free. I have called and emailed some great players for some advice
myself and NEVER got a response, so don't take it personally. I am all for
helping out anyone that I can, but if you have that many issues, then maybe
you need to take a lesson. Just because you bought a pair of NIKE Air
Jordan's, it does not mean that Michael Jordan is going to be on the
computer all day giving you free basketball advice. Does it? Understand?
Also, I do not have the time to keep my trumpet chops up and be on the
computer all day. You dig? I often wonder how so many people can be such
experts on an instrument that Rafael Mendez, 'Doc' Severinsen, etc. had to
spend just about every waking moment of their lives practicing and be on the
computer all day? I do not think it is possible, but that is just me.
Anyway, just some food for thought.
Musically yours,
