I performed this for a vocalist's Masters recital in December. This
vocalist was not very familiar with Baroque music (she sang mostly gospel
and spirituals), and had studied this recording for her performance. When
we began rehearsing, she told me that she wanted the ornamentation that
Wynton used. Eventually her teacher and I convinced her that a lot of this
ornamentation did not actually sound "Baroque," and was just a trumpet
player showing off. In the end, I used more conservative, Baroque
ornamentation that stayed close to what the soprano was trying to portray.
