I find that *I* need a rest a lot more often than any of my horns do!

I do have some lower-grade horns that I use, but not to rest my main horn.
I double on much of the brass family, to varying degrees, but not enough to
justify a top-of-the-line pro-level instrument in every case. So my Bb,
flugel, and 'bone -- instruments I perform with on a regular basis -- and a
few others are pro-level horns. But when I add a new double, I usually get
a used student-level or intermediate horn off eBay. It lets me start
learning the instrument at a reasonable cost, and then it might actually
pay for itself if I get a few gigs on it. When that happens, then I can
think about whether or not I need to upgrade to a better horn.
