Subject: [TPIN] Poll - Best ballads in the Real Book
So I was in the Palo Alto (Ca) Ikea this past weekend, and lo and
behold, there was a killer jazz combo playing in the "lobby". I didn't
get a chance to catch their name, but they were a Cuban-influenced
combo (think Pancho Sanchez, late-ere Diz, etc).
They were playing Coltrane "Soul Eyes" when I arrived, and I never
realized what a great trumpet tune that is (or flugel, in this case)
Seeing as the Real Book series is the most common and easily
accessible, I decided to throw this poll out there:
Name your favorite ballads for trumpet, that are contained in the Real
Books (Vols 1~3)
As in my example, they don't have to be typically associated with
trumpet, but I'm curious to see what you all think go well with this
instrument (with the difficulty being that the song has to be in the
Real Book)
HNY,
Boozo
