What is a natural embouchre?? What is "talent"
...Leon Merian tells the story of his start in his book. He was a
very bright kid with a good ear. When he first tried the trumpet he
wasn't getting very far until he saw one of the BSO set up and place
his horn on his embouchre. He imitated it and it worked. Had it not
been for the fortuitous circumstances, had he not found his set up
and perhaps he wouldn't have done so well. He also had the benefit of
lessons from Mager in the BSO and Walter Smith. Maurice Andre spoke
of talent also but he seemed to be referring to the fact that he
could practice for hours on end without tiring.
Even though he was not a trumpet player, there must be some truth to
the story of Charlie Parker's beginnings. It looks like you really
don't know if you have talent until you are well into the process if
not at its end.
