  Many people use the term grip even though the lips are in the mouthpiece.
  
  For some of us it is like a very slight flexing of the chop set toward  the inside of the mouthpiece rim. It gives a sense of security, a  familiar feel and strength.
  
  It allows a great deal of playing to happen with no movement of the mouthpiece at all.
  
  So at least for me the grip is from the inside out.
