Agreed...
I would suggest using the exact same mouthpiece, just a tighter backbore.  Just like the different setting on a nozzle for a hose, a smaller backbore will speed up the air and brighten your tone.  Again, as Rich said, check with your teacher first.

You could go nuts with this one. I would suggest getting a really 
good teacher to help you with this issue.

If anything I would suggest keeping the same top and switching 
backbores. However, do not do this without your teacher.
