Another place that could be the source of the problem is your trumpet case.
If it has gotten moldy or musty over the past few decades of non-use, it
could be filling your room and your trumpet with mold spores. I would
suggest a complete horn cleaning as another reader suggested, get all new
felts on the valves (just a few dollars), and dump your case if it is musty
smelling. And treat yourself to our odorless valve oil!
