Since Christmas I've been enjoying a new release, /Victor Herbert: The
Collection/ that was published by Syracuse University
(http://bookweb.syr.edu/ePOS?form=item.html&item=W46044&store=). The
transfers (all Edison recordings) are marvelous, and the music is most
enjoyable (and instructive from the perspective of performance
practice). I'm writing to TPIN to see if anyone knows anything about "M.
Borodkin," who was first trumpet in Herbert's orchestra for at least a
couple of years. He is featured on the last work, "Rose of the World"
(1909) and might also be the high note player on March Slav (1910). Who
he is, or what became of him, is a mystery to us. Perhaps he was related
to Jacob Borodkin, principal of Chicago at about this time. Any
information that can be passed on would be most appreciated.
Jim
