Since  Ole's description matches Brian Moon's report from Maurice himself from 1977, I think it is fairly safe to say that Maurice made that inimitable sound on piccolo with a Bach 7DW mouthpiece.  If there was a stash of them available somewhere, I suppose we could all make a run at one.
