[TPIN] Autumn Leaves

Well, it's G/em in the Real Book, but Miles - and I :-) - play it in Bb/gm (C/am for us). This is not the problem. Guys who can play and who know the tune know it by the major key - where it starts, not the related minor key where it ends. That said, if you called it in e minor, everyone would know where to start (in G).

My question was simply related to how often others had experienced difficulty in getting players of other instruments to do it in Bb/gm. It lies much better for us in that key, I think. Plus it avoids things like g#m7-5 and C#7 (the ii and V of the relative minor f#m) that we have to play when it's done in the Real Book key (G/em concert).

<I have a key question. The fake books have Autumn Leaves in G, but I
know several tpt players - myself included - who like it much better in
Bb. I have called it in Bb on the fly

Perhaps your problem is that Autumn Leaves is in a minor key. The Real Book
key is E min.
I like to play it in G min concert (so do you). So when you call the tune,
call G min.
If you call Bb, the band is gonna play in 5 flats, that's why the crazy
looks.
