when i played with group i call "the house band for the taco stand" we
had a fine young guitar player. He had learned a great solo on Autumn
Leaves, in G/em. He resisted with his whole soul the idea of playing it
in Bb/gm. Would have meant his having to learn the solo all over. We
just made it a feature song for him. He sounded great on it and the rest
of us just played the head and let him take a long solo.

Plus it avoids things like g#m7-5 and C#7 (the ii and V of the relative minor f#m) that we have to play when it's done in the Real Book key (G/em concert).
