One thing I fogot:
There is a true story of a gifted virtuoso horn player (I believe from the late 19th century or early 20th centure) whose lip began to dip down as he aged.
He was known for this incredible upper range, and when his high chops disappeared overnight he believed it had to do with the appearance of this divot in his upper lip.
He pleaded with his doctor/surgeon to do 'shave' his lip down, but he couldn't find a doctor willing to do it.
So he took a straight razor and did it himself. The resutling scar tissue permanently ruined his career.
I can't remember the name of the horn player, but it is a true story.
