I was once hired to play lead in a big band for a benefit or fund raiser at
the Philadelphia Art Museum - with a few different female singers - (Lena
Horne was one of 'em, if memory serves). This was 1978 or there abouts. The
people in the band were players from around Philly, but most of rhthym
section was from out of town - all but the guitar player as I think - and
maybe one or two horns.

Pete Condoli was one of the "out of towners" - he was there to play the jazz
book. What a thrill! When he introduced himself, I did a double take. Great
fellow, very mild mannered and complementary. Put me completely at ease. It
was a real thrill to play lead in a section with one of my childhood idols
playing the jazz book - It was always a special treat to hear him, and the
rest of the section in the Tonight Show Band, when they were show-cased.
(Although, Pete wasn't as much of a regular as Conti, as I recall?).

It's sad to hear he's passed away. Another indication of the passing of a
great musical era...
