[TPIN] How LOUD do I have to be?

And the pitch issue definately depends on the guys in the section beneath the 
lead player, of course.  

On this "note", I have to say that I've always admired lead players who lead 
by establishing a healthy "presence" of sound, and use that to project style.

I heard a recording on WBGO the other night, and without knowing who I was 
listening to, I thought - "man... the lead player doesn't overwhelm the band, 
but there is an incredible presence that you can't ignore".   Turned out to 
be a recording of the Village Vanguard band with Nick Marchione playing 
lead.  Just a beautiful "sheen" on top of the band, laying down the style.
