Doc,

Let me clarify. You are completely right that it would be good to discuss
the effect of diabetes on trumpet playing here on TPIN. It is trumpet
related. The kicker is when you say "as long as it stays on that topic."
Often we get way off-track when talking about health issues. Look where the
colonoscopy thread headed. It took us very quickly away from talking about
how long you have to wait after that procedure to play the trumpet to fear
of needles.

The diabetes thing would lead in the same direction. I'm sure of it. Of
course then there is the issue of people who are not MD's giving each other
medical advise.

Yes, it is often a judgment call on my part, but when we get 1 or 2 steps
removed from discussing directly trumpet-related topics I often step in and
ask people to take it to private email.

Thing is, there are tons of forums to discuss diabetes and arthritis and
even fear of needles. *Most* of the time - not always - the answers to our
health problems and their effects on our playing are available by looking
into non-trumpet resources.
