[TPIN] Gold Mouthpieces

I just had a quick question.
I'm a college student playing on a Bach 3C.  I'm
looking to upgrade mouthpieces.  
My question is: What is the benefits of gold and
gold-plated mouthpieces?  I see a lot of great players
with gold mouthpieces and I've never learned why that
is.
Also, Any recommendations?
I have a fairly low embouchure and play both jazz and
classical.
