Mike,

I'm with you on this.  I don't "get" the whole concept of the heavier "mega" mouthpieces.  I've tried them - to me, it just adds more weight to the horn, and otherwise doesn't accomplish a darn thing (for *me*).  I guess some players just feel more secure if they add weight to that part of the horn. (?)

The "caps" strike me as being a profound marketing gimmick.   Same category as "Pet Rocks".  Sorry for being so skeptical, but I fail to understand, from a rational/reasoning standpoint, what the heck putting a bigger/heavier cap on the BOTTOM of the valve casing could do to improve the playability of a horn.   If someone can explain it, from a physics standpoint, in a way that makes practical sense, I'm all ears.

I'm open minded... but my heads not a "wind tunnel" either.  (!!!)
