I'm not sure how many of you out there are familiar with the Tri-M Music Honor Society, but the Schenectady City High School has a chapter. The members are embarking on a rather ambitious effort to solicit used/slightly damaged (but repairable) instruments to help the city school district get more instruments into our inner city kid's hands. Schenectady is an aging industrial city in upstate NY where about 70% of the students are on free or reduced lunch plans, so few can afford to rent, let alone buy their own instruments.
Does anyone out there have any old horns (or any other instruments for that manner) they'd be willing to donate? Tri-M has raised money for instrument repairs, so it doesn't have to be in perfect working order, just as long as it's something that can be repaired. The Schenectady City School District Music Department will provide you with a letter for tax purposes, so you can take the donation as a tax write-off which could include any shipping costs as well as the value of the instrument.
Thanks in advance for considering this request.
Sincerely,
Steve Weisse
President - Schenectady Friends of Music
