[TPIN] am I missing something

Intonation is constantly adjusting and adjusted for well-in-tune playing.

The best device, imho, is the Jack Holland pitchfinder, which allows you to adjust the pitch of the entire horn as you play (by moving the main tuning slide).

This allows you to center every note for best sound, then adjust the main tuning slide to be in tune with others, too.

Chase Sanborn also has a clip on device to assist you in learning to center pitches, but this does not guarantee you will be in tune with others....for that your most important accessories are on the sides of your HEAD! ;^)

Try playing the Stravinsky Octet with a bassoonist who can't adjust all his/her upper register notes (so YOU must adjust YOUR notes!)....

Hth, let me know if you need more details,
Blessings,
Jeanne

Recently I have been looking at some of my trumpet heros pictures..Usually, they are holding a trumpet (showing)..I noticed that some

of their pictures show..the main tuning slide adjusted to about 1 1/2" <%SNIP%>
