If you guys already have a turntable you might want to check out Inport 
Deluxe (web site below) for transferring analog to digital form.  I have one 
and it works well.  The software allows you to take out pops and cracks in 
the recording.  See what you think for those old trumpet recordings that you 
can't find anyplace else.
